Hello

I am Kaiwen Sun

I'm a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Michigan School of Information advised by Dr. Florian Schaub and Dr. Chris Brooks.

My research addresses critical challenges at the intersection of privacy, child development, human-computer interaction, and public policy by focusing on three key areas:

  1. Enhancing children’s data and privacy literacy,

  2. Designing smart home technologies that cater to families' needs,

  3. Empowering children’s creative engagement with emerging technologies.

Drawing on interdisciplinary expertise from developmental psychology, usable privacy, and design, my work is grounded in the lived experiences of children and families to develop transparent, child-inclusive, and family-friendly solutions that inform design interventions, policy changes, and educational practices.
